Thompson practices primarily in the areas of family law. In addition to family law, he practices in the probate court with matters related to Guardianship and Conservatorship cases.
Thompson is an experienced Family Court attorney who represents individuals in matters related to divorce, child custody, property division, spousal support, and other issues. Also, he has frequently represented individuals in abuse and neglect proceedings brought by the Department of Social Services (DSS).
Thompson is a Certified Family Court Mediator and enjoys assisting individuals mediate their Family Court and Probate disputes out of Court. Also, Thompson frequently serves as a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem in contested child custody cases.
Thompson has experience in Probate Court with matters related to the protection of persons under disability and their property. This includes filing Guardianships and Conservatorships on behalf of clients, serving as an Attorney for Alleged Incapacitated Individuals (AII,) and serving as a Guardian ad Litem for the AII.
In addition to his private practice, Thompson serves as an Assistant Solicitor for Family Court in Sumter County, where he prosecutes juveniles who are charged with criminal offenses.
Thompson graduated from Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts in Government with a minor in Economics. Thompson graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Sumter County Bar.
Thompson and his family are active members of Church of the Apostles in Columbia, where he serves on the Vestry and as the parish Chancellor.
